The ISL : Football in the Kingdom of Cricket
When you travel in India, you can see people playing cricket everywhere, the king of sports in the sub-continent.
The ISL, the Indian Super League football has just started on 12th October 2014 with eight franchised clubs in eight Indian cities - Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Kochi, Pune, and Guwahati in the north east.
With its ambition of making Indian football more popular in the kingdom of cricket, and in the world, each club has signed with Indian and European big names, and the owners and co-owners of clubs are also of big names --- Bollywood film stars, industrial groups, and even the former Indian star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar owns one of them, Kerala Blasters.
Mumbai City has signed with, among others, the former French national team player Nicolas Anelka, who also played in different big European clubs (who misses 3 first matches due to FIFA'S saction over his gesture while playing in England's Premier League's West Bromwich Albion). The Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor (appeared in the film "Barfi!" 2012) is co-owner of the club.
The opening game held in Kolkata on 12th October after the opening ceremony was Atletico Kolkata vs Mumbai City FC (3-0).
Mumbai City FC then won Maharashtra Derby on 18th October against FC Pune City at its home DY Patil Stadium with fantastic 5-0 score.
Far in Europe, I have little chance to watch ISL games.
Thanks Eurosports channel, I watched my first ISL game on French TV!
Delhi Dynamos FC vs FC Goa game without Alessandro Del Piero nor Robert Pires in the pitch but Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan ( appeared in the film "Student of the Year " 2012), the brand Ambassador of FC Goa, was in the stands.
